When size matters: How to choose the right binder?
Share
A binder, or chest binder, is an important part of many of our wardrobes. Thanks to it, we experience gender euphoria and are not afraid to engage in activities we were previously afraid of. However, not every binder is suitable for every body. So how do we choose the right one?
Just as we have different types of t-shirts, trousers, bras, shoes, and other types of clothing, we can also categorise binders by size, purpose of wear, and a host of other things. We should keep this in mind when acquiring one to avoid disappointment... and danger.
So what should we pay attention to for safe binder wearing?
What will we use the binder for?
A different binder is suitable for everyday wear and another for physical activity (e.g., sports). The sports type are shorter and function like sports bras, but they do not compress the abdomen and hips. This, on the other hand, is the specialty of long binders.
There are also special binders for swimming, or rather compression tapes (binder tapes). Unlike the previous two types, they don't have straps, so they appear less noticeable, but they also compress much less. If you want to swim in a binder, reach for a DYKKA binder in beige or black.
What size am I?
It's fine to go by t-shirt, shirt, or bra sizes, but we must remember that a binder is a compression garment, which means it will be tighter. For this reason, for extra firm variants, we should choose one that is half to one size larger than the clothes we normally wear. Otherwise, it will be too tight, or even worse, we will suffocate in it, which we must avoid. The binder size chart can be found here.
Am I allergic to anything? What if I don't want to buy an animal product?
However, we can suffocate or get a rash even with a binder of the correct size. It's enough if we are allergic to a certain material and the binder is unfortunately made of it. The best option, which minimises this risk, are binders made of elastic fibres, and you can find exactly those in our e-shop.
Another chapter regarding material selection is respect for animals. At Dykka's e-shop, we have a great advantage: All products on offer are vegan and no animal was harmed in their production.
How much do I want to spend on a binder?
Binders can generally be bought cheaply, but also for astronomical sums. The cheapest are, of course, tapes, which start at CZK 320, and in our e-shop, the most expensive binders cost CZK 2,490 (these are, of course, long ones that compress not only the chest but also the abdomen and hips).
Do you want to make one of your trans* loved ones happy? Buy them a voucher for our e-shop worth CZK 500 to 2,000 and they will be one step closer to gender euphoria!
